Getting started
The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet, supporting 25% of all known marine life. But coral reefs are under threat and without urgent action 90% are projected to be lost by 2050. It’s not too late to protect coral reefs and the marine life that calls them home, but our window to act is closing. This is the critical decade for bold, decisive action.
The Great Barrier Reef Foundation is the largest coral reef conservation group on the planet, dedicated to creating a better future for coral reefs. In the last five years it has achieved more breakthroughs in coral reef science than have been delivered in the past 50. Key projects include:
- Restoring coral reefs across the Great Barrier Reef and in the Pacific
- Protecting critical Reef habitats and threatened species, including turtles, dugongs, whales and seabirds
- Restoring vital seagrass meadows which help mitigate the impacts of climate change
