Right now, something extraordinary is happening on the Great Barrier Reef. Just days after the full moon, millions of corals release tiny bundles into the water in a spectacular event called coral spawning. When these bundles meet, they create new coral life. It’s nature working in perfect harmony.
But this underwater wonder is under threat
Our oceans are heating faster than coral can adapt, and many reefs are struggling to recover. If temperatures keep rising as predicted, we could lose them in our lifetime. The loss would be devastating – for the animals that call the Reef home, for the health of our oceans, and for our planet itself.
This is the moment to act
Each summer, the ocean comes alive with new coral life, creating a rare window for the Reef to heal and grow again. Right now, researchers are testing new solutions on the Reef to help that new life take hold. They carefully collect tiny coral bundles from reefs and nurture them in floating nurseries until they’re ready to return to the sea.
By focusing on connected reefs – natural crossroads where ocean currents carry new life far and wide – we could spark a ripple effect of recovery, helping damaged areas heal.
